The EZ Detect Kit is designed to help detect occult blood in
the stool - an early indicator of various bleeding disorders of
the digestive system*. Many of these disorders may not produce
visible symptoms in their early stages, therefore early
detection and follow-up with your physician can help you get
potentially lifesaving early treatment. The
American Cancer Society research has led to their general
recommendation that most men and women over 50 should have this
type of test don on an annual basis. There are some individuals
with a family, or personal, history of intestinal disorders or
colorectal cancer who should be tested more frequently.
While there are other methods of testing blood in the stool, some of them can
be quite messy and awkward. As a result, many people avoid this important
screening. The EZ Detect Kit is a simple "at home" test that is low cost, and
very convenient. You just drop in a test tissue after a bowel movement, look for
any color changes and record the results. While this test provides useful
information, it is not intended to replace regular rectal exams or other test
ordered by your physician.
Inside the EZ Detect Kit, you will find the following items:
- Instruction sheet
- Result card for mailing results to your physician
- Control package
- Foil pouch with 5 test tissues
For the most accurate results, you are strongly encouraged to carefully read
the instruction sheet and follow all directions closely. You are also strongly
encouraged to mail or deliver your completed Test Result Card to your physician.
This is especially true if any of your tests are positive.
*Blood in the stool can be the result of a number of factors, including
ulcers, hemorrhoids, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, cancer and fissures. If
blood is detected, your physician may decide to conduct other test to help
clarify the actual cause.
