Throughout the year and on many special occasions volunteers
participate in fundraising activities. These events include
everything from the operation of the Rose Petal Gift Shop,
Mountain Man sales (dried fruit, nuts and candies) to support of
the medical center golf tournament and other fundraisers
throughout the year. Funds are raised that help finance student
volunteer scholarships, buy wheelchairs, transport carts and
help other hospital projects such as the chaplain's endowment
fund, the therapeutic garden, cardiac rehab and diabetes
education.
Rose Petal Gift Shop
Located to the left, inside the front entrance of the medical center, the
Rose Petal offers a variety of tantalizing items. Flowers and cards are only a
small part of its offerings. Gifts for all ages and genders are available.
Whether you are looking for a cuddly stuffed animal, an intricate piece of
glassware or a friendly character to sit on a shelf, you can find it in a
variety of prices. Items to support the daily life of patients and guests, such
as sundries, candy, games and reading materials are available. Each season new
items are added to spark interest. The special sales make it a place for
everyone to drop in and look for something to brighten their day. Volunteers
contribute to the operation of all this.
Mountain Man Sale
Whether you are looking for a treat to make your day or to stock a supply
for a month, the monthly Mountain Man sales can meet your needs. Volunteers make
available a wide range of items such as dried fruit, nuts, mixes and candies
(sugar and sugar-free) for sale in the lower level of the atrium each month. The
variety of colors and smells tempt all of us to make the monthly Mountain Man
sales a place to visit.
Mama Shoppe
If you have a new baby in your family or if you are visiting one, the Mama
Shoppe, located in the Family Birth Place on the second floor, is a helpful
stop. There are items to meet the special needs of a newborn or a new mother.
There are treats for brothers and sisters as well as items to help celebrate the
new addition. Even fathers can find something to help them before, or after, the
big event. Volunteers can help you find something to meet your needs.
Other Activities
Throughout the year there are one-time special events that contribute to the
financing of special needs and projects, such as the holiday poinsettia sales
and the Angels & Bows program for Hospice.
Beneficiaries of Volunteer Fundraising
The primary consideration for the distribution of volunteer fundraising
profits is the direct use of patients. Significant
contributions have been made
to the Meditation Garden between the medical center and Professional Building
1, the chaplains endowment fund and the new therapeutic garden to be developed
next to 1400 and 1500. We have supported the Healthvan activities, provided
floral baskets for the Meditation Garden, assisted outpatient cardiac
rehabilitation, diabetes education and the production of the Aging Fitfully
video. We have purchased such items as rest benches for Professional Building
1, a piano for the atrium and additional wheelchairs for patient transport.
Scholarships
College Educational Grants
A percentage of the funds raised each year is set aside to finance
educational grants for teen volunteers who are graduating seniors. Applicants
for grants must be currently active volunteers and have completed a minimum of
two years of service and/or 400 hours of service time. An educational grant
committee will determine the dollar amount of each grant to be given based on an
evaluation form that includes performance, dependability, quality of work and
other criteria. All qualifying
volunteers are notified of the grant availability
and application criteria each May.
Other Scholarships
Funds are set aside to assist outpatients that need cardiopulmonary
rehabilitation or diabetes education and cannot afford the needed service.
