Thank you for expressing an interest in volunteering at
Adventist Medical Center. Volunteers are a vital part of our
organization, saving over $1,000,000 annually for the hospital.
If you'd like to become a part of an organization with a strong
mission to "demonstrate the human expression of the healing
ministry of Jesus Christ," then you should definitely look into
volunteering at Adventist Medical Center!
Our
volunteer program involves people of all ages, beginning at 14 years old to well
over 90 years old. Volunteers are constantly on the go, with many tasks to do.
We have approximately 300+ volunteers from all walks of life and with varying
skill sets. With such a vast array of ages and skills, we are able to provide
services in a variety of ways.
Our volunteers start out on the Escort/Transport Team. This allows them to get
to know the hospital and office buildings intimately, as well as the opportunity
to get to know the people who work in the various departments. We don't sponsor
internship or externship programs and our hospital does not have a pediatrics or
baby cuddle program. However, after volunteering for a minimum of 100 hours, we
do place some volunteers into specific departments – depending on the
department's needs and each volunteer's set of skills. This requires commitment
on the part of both the volunteer and the hospital department. Volunteers must be able to speak fluent English.
Our volunteers choose to be with us in order to "give back to their community"
or to fill a need to be out of the house and involved in a "meaningful" way of
service. Many people ask if our volunteer department helps with job placement.
Although we don't have a job placement program, we feel that your experience in
volunteering will reflect the type of employee you may be. Therefore, we are
happy to recommend our volunteers who have a consistent, timely attendance, a
willing attitude and also have volunteered for the minimum 100 hours.
If you are interested in volunteering with Adventist Medical Center, you may
stop by and pick up an application from either the medical center Information
Desk in the front lobby, or from the volunteer office. You may also download an
application here. Please fill in the application and drop it by the office or
mail it to: Volunteer Services, Adventist Medical Center, 10123 SE Market
Street, Portland, Oregon 97216.
The
volunteer office is open from 8 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. All volunteers
must be interviewed prior to being accepted into the program and commit to a
minimum of 100 hours of service. This can easily be done by volunteering for one
4-hour shift per week for approximately 6 months. The hospital does require
additional training and medical clearance before your volunteer experience will
begin. We reserve the right to accept or deny acceptance of volunteers at any
time during the application process, depending on reference checks, background
checks and matching our current needs to your skill set.
We look forward to receiving your application. After you turn in your
application, we will call you for an interview when we have an opening that
matches your needs.
If you have further questions, please call 503-251-6114
