Polysomnogram (PSG), also called sleep study, is a
non-invasive test that records vital signs and physiology during
a night of sleep. It includes measurements from an EEG, EMG, EOG
and EKG, as well as respiratory airflow and respiratory effort,
oxygen saturation and body position.
During sleep testing, the
activities that go on in your body during sleep (brain waves, muscle movements,
eye movements, breathing through your mouth and nose, snoring, heart rate and
leg movements) are monitored by small electrodes applied to your head and skin.
Flexible
elastic belts around your chest and abdomen measure your breathing. The level of
oxygen in our blood and your heart rate are monitored by a clip on your index
finger or earlobe. None of these devices are painful and all are designed to be
as comfortable as possible. Services offered include:
- Diagnosis of various forms of sleep apnea
- Diagnosis of upper airway resistance
- Diagnosis of restless leg syndrome
- Diagnosis of teeth grinding during sleep
- Monitoring oxygen levels during sleep
