Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) Core Measures
Pneumonia is a serious lung infection that causes difficulty breathing, fever,
cough and fatigue. Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is the sixth most common
cause of death in the United States. Every year, there are an estimated two to
three million cases of CAP resulting in 500,000 hospitalizations and 45,000
deaths. This measure shows how often our hospital gave recommended treatments to
their patients who had pneumonia during second quarter 2009.
