Hospital Visitation Restrictions In an effort to protect and enhance the well being of
our patients, staff and guests from the H1N1 virus, Adventist
Medical Center (AMC) visitors will be screened daily for signs
and symptoms of influenza disease starting Wednesday, October
14, 2009. If the visitor is identified as having an
influenza-like illness in the absence of a known alternative
cause, the visitor will be prohibited from entering the hospital
unit and will be asked to leave the hospital. The visitor may
return to AMC when symptoms have resolved and he/she has been
without a fever for at least 24 hours.
In addition, due to the highly contagious H1N1 virus (swine flu)
and extreme risk to this age group, children 18 years of age and younger are
asked not to enter the hospital unless coming for treatment.
The screening of hospital visitors for signs or symptoms of influenza-like
illness will be an important part of minimizing hospital-acquired pandemic
H1N1 infection among the inpatient population. Ill visitors have the potential
to infect hospital employees, patients, and other visitors.
Children 18 years of age and younger have the highest incidence of
hospitalization for flu-like illness.
Children may shed influenza virus several days before exhibiting symptoms.
Pregnant women and Intensive Care patients are at high risk for
complications from H1N1.
