New Cardiopulmonary Rehab Facilities & Equipment

New facilities with services and care delivered in close proximity would create a more efficient care model:

Goal is same-day care
Improved coordinated care among cardiopulmonary services
All services immediately available
Diminishes prospect of duplicate testing
Lower incident costs
Efficiencies in care and treatment leading to decreased patient anxiety
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation follow-up care to prevent reoccurrence
New technologies in treating heart disease enable patients to have quick diagnosis and treatment on an outpatient basis, avoiding costly extended inpatient care

Expanded Emergency Department

AMC's Emergency Department (ED) is the busiest in the East Portland metro area.
In 2005, more than 41,000 patients were seen in ED, a 7.6 percent increase over the previous year and a 49 percent increase over the same period 10 years ago.
AMC's ED is on full-time "divert" three to four days a week. This means that when the ED is so busy and has no available beds, ambulances must be diverted to another hospital. Often other facilities are on divert status at the same time.
Current heavy volume has stressed current capacity, resulting in overcrowding, long waits, and diverts to facilities further away from patients' homes.
Current capacity is 18 beds. Expanding the ED to 32 beds will nearly double our patient bed capacity.
